Study Abroad and the Second Language Learner: Expectations, Experiences and Development

Offering a timely update on approaches to and emerging issues in contemporary study abroad and second language acquisition (SLA) research, this book explores the linguistic development of language learners studying abroad. Reflecting the social turn in SLA research, this book presents a threefold thematic focus, investigating learner beliefs about study abroad, learner experiences of study abroad in relation to a range of individual, cultural and social factors, and the nature of learner development while abroad at an intercultural, personal and linguistic level.
